I was shocked when I learned early Monday morning that George Carlin passed away Sunday, June 22. In less than two weeks, two men who I've seen on television a lot, George Carlin and Tim Russert, have passed away over heart issues as has been widely reported on the tv news. I want to share some of my memories of George Carlin. My Favorite Routine Of The Late Comedian
My favorite routine of all time that George Carlin performed is his Airline Announcements routine that he did from his Jammin' In New York comedy show, which I have on cassette tape. I love the way he shows just how stupid the airlines are with many of their announcements. Every time I fly, I think of George Carlin whenever I hear one of their stupid announcements, like when the flight attendants have the audacity to welcome passengers to a city that they themselves are just arriving at, which the great comedian pointed out that they do in that particular routine. Or when he pointed out the inappropriateness of the phrase "final destination", given that all destinations are final, to where the word "final" is unnecessary.
He Must've Been Blasting Me!
I was watching one of the HBO Specials of George Carlin earlier in this century, and I remember how he went off about guys with fanny packs who purchase a bag of cheese puffs with a credit card. He screamed at such people to get some cash. I felt so guilty in a funny way since I had just done that not long before I watched him blast such people like me. As long as it's over a buck, I pay for things with a credit card, which I store in my fanny pack! His comedic rant on that is burned in my memory.
