What Basketball Star Does Tyra Banks Cry Over?
On Wednesday, November 8, 2006, Tyra Banks will air a show called "Professional Athletes and the Women Who Love Them," about the female groupies that make bedding or marrying a super-star athlete their number one goal."Women who will do anything to be with athletes," is how Tyra described the girls, including one pretty brunette who sat not too comfortably in the hot seat of Tyra's couch as the incisive talk show host probed for details.
"You'd wait outside the locker room?" Tyra asked her from afar, perhaps staying physically away from the type of woman who used to tempt Tyra's own NBA ex, Chris Webber.
We're Not Groupies!
According to Tyra's site, this Wednesday's show will feature "three women who say they like to date athletes
But the so-called "not groupies" aren't the most newsworthy segment.
"It's the interview that caused me to break down," Tyra says in a voice-over promo for the compelling show, which also features a controversial NBA husband and wife who are practically joined at the hip in their travels.
Tyra Cries
Not only will Tyra chat with the women who would do just about anything to snag a sports hero, Tyra herself will also shed a few tears with NBA star Doug Christie's wife, Jackie, the one who tries to make sure her man never cheats by following him around to every game while her mom watches after their kids.
The promo showed Jackie wiping tears from behind her sunglasses while the audio describes Tyra asking, "Have you ever been tempted by a groupie, Doug?"
Doug is shown hesitating while the Christies confess to some action that prompted Jackie to remove her shades, dab her eyes and reveal: "I was hurt."
Tyra's Confession
In light of Jackie's vulnerability, Tyra reaches over to touch Jackie's hand and comfort her with a confession of Ms. Banks own: "I was with my boyfriend for a long time," Tyra began, her voice cracking. "I couldn't stay…" she continued.
"But I know personally he loved you," Jackie responded, causing Tyra's face to seem pinched with even more pain over a relationship gone wrong to an unnamed basketball star. Of course the world will wonder if Tyra is weeping over her break up with basketball star Chris Webber, with whom she enjoyed an at least a three-year relationship.
Allowing Adultery
"An NBA wife who allows her husband to cheat," is how Tyra introduced another guest on the show, Masha Kirilenko, who is married to the Utah Jazz's Andrei Lopatova. According to the Tyra Show website, Masha will share with viewers "why she lets her husband have a sexual 'free pass' once a year."
"If I know about it, it's not cheating," the cute blonde Masha is shown saying, while Tyra holds her nose in amazement as the audience groans. It's sure to be an exciting watch.
