It is possible to flavor foods without salt. Salt free foods don't have to be bland, if you are willing to experiment with herbs and spices. When you swap the salt in recipes for flavorful herbs, spices, and oils, you will discover a whole new taste sensation. Here are simple no sodium ideas to dress up your meals.

Drizzle lemon herb dressing or fresh lime juice over vegetables before serving.

Lemon juice is a flavor addition to fish, vegetables, and fruits, and it prevents browning. It also makes a great addition to guacamole and hummus dips.

Stir fry using small amounts of pepper, garlic, anise, and ginger.

Rosemary is great on lamb, but it also makes a wonderful addition to potatoes and bread. Garlic flavored oil is also great on breads and potato wedges.

Quick bread flavors are enhanced with ginger, lemon, and vanilla.

Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon or ginger on fruit or drizzle with lemon juice for a kick.

For beef, pork, or root vegetables, use fresh or dried herbs and fresh ground pepper. Try some spice blends and herb-infused oil or vinegar. Some salt-free options include onion power, oregano, coriander, cumin, curry, celery seed, rosemary, basil, and chili.

For poultry, try berry sauce, fruit or vegetable salsa, or balsamic vinegar.

Eating a low sodium diet may not have been your choice, but instead of feeling deprived, make low sodium cooking an adventure. Improve the flavor of foods without adding salt. You'll enjoy your new diet plan more, and your heart will love you for it.
