If you have a cell phone then you know that one of the worst feelings is opening your mailbox and noticing your cell phone bill is just a little bit thicker than your last one. You get nervous and just look at the envelope not wanting to see what it stores for you inside. Though you know what it says. Overage charges, text message charges, download charges, or an array of multiple things that you get nickel and dimed for. Some of which you may have not been aware that you were even being charged for.I want to bring your attention to something that is widely used in the cell phone industry to squeeze an additional $15 - $20 per line out of your pocket. It is usually referred to as 'Free Internet for the First Month'. Verizon Wireless and Sprint are notorious for this 'gift'. Verizon calls it their VCast service and Sprint calls their service Vision or Power Vision depending on your phones capabilities.
They depend on most customers never calling to cancel this service or not noticing it on their bills for months at a time. Even worse is cell phone employees are encouraged to add this to your plan when they activate or upgrade your service and then tell you that it's automatically added as a bonus to you. When in all reality it is not automatic, and the cell phone employees are rewarded an average of $3 to $5 for each phone it is added on.
I consider Verizon Wireless to be the worst offenders when it comes to this feature as they name their service in such a way that it can confuse consumers into downloading songs under the impression that it's free for the first month. Allow me to explain.
