Asian Infusion: Home Decorating with Asian Accessories

Tips for Your Foyer and Living Room

Asian themed home accessories are on the rise. All one has to do is glance in the popular shops and department stores to see that this is true. In the Western world, Asian inspired home décor is often referred to by interior decorators as, Asiana. The
key to decorating a home with accessories from Asia is space and balance. Each object must have space surrounding it and the object must harmonize with the room that it graces. I have firsthand experience in decorating with Asian accessories; and, will share with you some tips on how to smoothly infuse your home with Asian flare. Before doing so, I would like to offer advice on how to prep your home for Asiana decorating.

Preparing Your Home Before Decorating with Asian Accessories

1. Make sure that you have cleared the clutter. Asian décor is about respecting space. If you have things laying around that you clearly do not want or need, consider donating them to a charity that works with people who could really use these things.

2. Start with a freshly cleaned space. This will set the mood for the clean and spacious theme of the room.

3. Consider the principles of Feng Shui when decorating your home. There is plenty of information about this approach online and in book stores for you to explore. (I can suggest an introduction to Feng Shui that I wrote for Associated Content, if you are interested: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/819631/feng_shui_style_letting_your_living.html?cat=30.)

Decorating Your Foyer with Asian Accessories

1. Use a fine china vase in a black or dark blue color on the main table. Fill it with silk cherry blossoms and set it in the center of the table. You will be surprised at how beautiful and dramatic this looks by itself.

2. Hang a chrome or brass sun shaped mirror or wooden Bagua mirror above the table. Having the silk cherry blossoms reflected in the mirror beautifully enhances the Asian theme.
