The "Happening" 2008 Movie "Strange and Unusual" Film About Plant Life Invisibly Taking Over Planet Earth
If you enjoyed the newer episodes of the "Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, and this non-hit TV show called "Night Visions" you will thoroughly enjoy this sci-fi thriller film called "The Happening" co-written, produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
For science fiction fans like me, this film honestly made me "stop and think" about how badly human beings treat nature and the beautiful surroundings we live in on this planet earth. Maybe it is time that plant life on earth took a stand and fought back against human
beings?
The only part of this film that I did NOT seem to understand as a science fiction freak, was "Why did these plants only target certain areas of the Northeastern part of the United States?" Only in large populated areas such as parks and busy cities? Which as the film carefully moved on, the crowd became smaller, but yet ironically still stayed in the Northeast region of the USA?
The film begins with people walking backwards in New York central park and construction workers dropping off buildings committing suicide for NO apparent reason. At first, scientist believed this was an act of terrorism thinking that there was some clear harmful poisonous gas placed into the air by terrorist, only later in the film scientist revealed this was NOT true.
M. Night Shyamalan the director of the "Sixth Sense, and The Village" is an excellent film director, but should NOT be writing films, simply because this film has an extremely "weak" ending. After 1 hour, the film reaches a climax, but begins to slow down in the last 30 minutes.
Mark Whalberg is the science teacher leader of this expedition by train. Him and his wife Zooey Claire Deschanel (whom has the most beautiful and touching blue eyes I have seen on screen film for years) finally begin too realize that plant life is taking over the earth because of the "wind" In other words, if you move in one direction, you will Not be affected by this plant life harmful air, but move in the other direction, you will commit suicide?
