Pres. Bush Proves Once Again that He Just Can't Quit Lying to the American People
Is Pres. George W. Bush simply incapable of telling the truth? Or does he just not realize he is lying? What is really amazing about the accidental Presidency of George W. Bush is that so many of his early supporters—the ones whose votes counted more than all the majority of
Americans who didn’t vote for him in 2000—backed his candidacy because he was supposed to represent a move away from Slick Willy Clinton. Pres. Clinton stood before the American people and lied right to their faces about not having sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. George W. Bush’s supporters wanted to replace the big fat liar Bill with a man of integrity and honesty.
In the five and a half years since Bush placed his hand on the Bible and swore an oath to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States, it has become apparent with each passing day that the trust his supporters placed in him was misplaced beyond anyone’s ability to predict. (Except me, I must confess.) Take today as an example. Pres. Bush stood before the members of the press and said that he and Donald Rumsfeld had agreed long before today that it was time for a change of direction. Not a week ago, Pres. Bush stood before these same reporters and essentially vowed that Rumsfeld would remain this country’s Sec. of Defense for the next two years—or however much longer Bush remains President. (I mean, you know, anything is possible during a time period of two years…impeachment, a sudden attack of conscience resulting in resignation, a heart attack, a bullet…who knows how long Bush will actually remain President.) Today, Bush said that he had to lie to the press because he didn’t think it was a good idea to toss in something as dramatic as the replacement of the Sec. of Defense right before the election.
