Christmas Craft Ideas: Pale Pink Polka Dot Ornaments
These ornaments are so precious and so simple to make. They look perfect on a very feminine, all-pink holiday tree, which is slated to be another hot design style for Christmas 2008. You can make just one of these ornaments to use as a gift or a present topper,
or create an entire tree full of these sweet glass balls.
For this project, you will need:
- One three inch or larger glass ball ornament
- Pink marabou feathers
- Circle stickers (usually available at office supply stores)
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Ballet Slipper
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Paper cup
- Newspaper or a large drop cloth
As with any project including spray paints and a hot glue gun, extreme caution is necessary to ensure safety during this craft. Make sure your work area is very well ventilated. For easier cleanup, cover this area with newspaper or a large drop cloth prior to starting.
Remove the hanging cap from the glass ball ornament. Set this cap aside in a safe place; you will use it later. Adhere several circle stickers all over the ornament. (These can be uniform in size, or varied for a unique polka dot appearance.) Smooth the circle stickers with your fingers so that there are no air bubbles.
Spray the outside of the ornament with a thick coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Satin Ballet Slipper. Place the glass ball ornament into the paper cup to dry for an hour or longer. Repeat this process until the entire ornament has been painted a uniform color of ballet slipper, pale pink. Let the ornament set overnight to dry.
Carefully peel off all the stickers on the ornament. This should leave several clear "polka dots" all over the glass ball. Stuff the ornament with a good sized amount of pale pink marabou feathers. Continue to fill the ornament with feathers until it is all you can see through the clear circles. Replace the hanging cap and adhere it with a small dot of hot glue. Dry for an hour before hanging and enjoying.
