8 Great Public Golf Courses in Fairfield County, Connecticut

Fairfield County is one of the wealthiest counties in the entire country. Due to the affluence in Fairfield County, Connecticut has one of the top per capita income levels of any of the United States.

Along with that wealth comes a great deal of selection of private golf and country clubs. But for those looking for good quality public golf courses at a relatively reasonable cost, Fairfield County has plenty to offer. The following
is my list of the top eight public golf courses in Fairfield County, Connecticut, in alphabetical order by town.

D. Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course
2390 Easton Turnpike
Fairfield, Connecticut
(203) 373-5911

The D. Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course offers two 18 hole golf courses. In past years, it seemed that the course was not in the best of shape, but in recent years, the management seems to have focused on keeping the greens and fairways in better shape.

The two courses are named Red and Black. Both have a very similar length, at about 6560 yards from the back tees.

Tee times are available a week in advance. Fairfield residents enjoy a significant discount on greens fees, which range from the $20 range to $40 range depending on day of the week and residency status. This is really a no-frills public golf course that is generally pretty accessible in terms of tee times.

South Pine Creek Golf Course
Old Dam Road
Fairfield, Connecticut
(203) 256-3171

South Pine Creek is a nine hole, par three public golf course in Fairfield, Connecticut. Tee times can be reserved a week in advance for both weekend and weekdays. Fairfield residents pay half price at this very moderately priced course. This is a good place to work on your short game with its very short pitch and putt type of layout (about 1200 yards from the back tees).

H. Smith Richardson Golf Course

Fairfield, Connecticut
