The Truth About Vector Marketing Group

A Summer Job That's Not All It's Cracked Up to Be

Over the summer, I found I wasn’t getting quite the hours I had hoped for at my job, so therefore I started looking for a second job. One day I received a letter in the mail from The Vector Marketing Group. They were offering me, and probably
thousands of other students, a summer job opportunity. They never actually stated what the job was in the letter, but did give about 10 bulleted items as to why it was so great to work for the company. They talked about how great the pay was, however they never actually stated the rate of pay. They discussed how the hours were flexible and there was great opportunity to advance. After, some digging on the web, I discovered that working for Vector Marketing Group, is about the last job I would possibly want.

For years, Vector Marketing has been targeting students in the United States in Canada to sell Cutco kitchen knives with demonstrations in private individual’s homes. Students are encourages to at first sell to their family and friends who generally feel like they have an obligation to at least listen to the sales pitch. After that, students must rely on referrals which are often very difficult to get, since very few people will allow strangers in to their home and give them a sales pitch on a set of knives that costs hundreds of dollars. “It’s hard to explain to people how they’re supposed to spend $1,600 on kitchen knives,” said University of Winnipeg student, Chris Richard to the Manitoban.

Vector has been accused of using deceptive practices to lure students in to the job. An ex-manager at vector, referring to himself only as Trevor stated “one whole day of my training was dedicated to providing some quick and easy ways to find recruits. Such as: vague ads, music, rejection applications, reps posing as new applicants, eye contact, luring college kids due to money and flexible schedule. The single most biggest physiological lesson was this pure and simple: MAKE THE KIDS FEEL SPECIAL. Make them think they are the only qualified people for the job.”

i've been working for Vector Marketing for 4 weeks and i've made 2500 dollars working less than 30 hours each week. at this rate i will receieve a pay check for this week that is just over $1000 this is definately not attributed to luck of the draw or anything else. i have no sales experience whatsoever and am not even well spoken. most of the sales i made with friends and family were very small, while aquitances bought larger sets. I have been promoted several times and now make 30% commission. it is true that vector is deceiving as they lure you into this job. i didn't know what i was getting myself into. i was reluctant about spending $135 for a sample set, until i found out that not only could i sell it for up to $540, but its also 100% refundable until the end of the summer. now i know that my fears were unfounded. i've made thousands, i love my job and i love every single person i work with. the confrences are litterally a blast, more fun than high school pep rallies. i don't

I started two weeks ago, and my paycheck was $230.......for this week. PS: I slacked off a shitload too, and no, these sales were not from my family. If you cant get recommendations, then you are just an all around shitty employee. So no, the pay does rule, and its by far the easiest job in the world. But if you are too lazy to shuffle out a bit of effort to make some cash, then you might as well sit at home in your moms basement jerking off living off her expenses because that's all you'll ever be good for. You lazy Fucks

Please do not let this "company" fool you. This is a multi-level marketing operation like so many before it - Amway, HerbalLife, Equinox and others. They will be evasive when you ask them specific questions about the nature of the work. They will tell you that you must create a sales network. This means that you will recruit other people (victims) They will require you to pay your own money to "invest" in the business. They will tell you that you can get rich. Someone may show you his/her paycheck stub, which will indeed show two or three-thousand for a week. Ask yourself this: If it's such a good product, then why don't they sell it online or open some retail stores? They'll claim that they eliminate the middleman. Please do not do get involved in this type of operation. It is only for the enrichment of those who established the racket. It is not a legitimate form of marketing.

I had a interview with Vector here in Des Moines a week ago and was offered a position. At first I was happy about it but after doing some 'digging' and having many people tell me NOT to take the job. I didn't even go to the training for the job this last week because of how Vector is. I am a college student with NO work experience but at least I won't have my first job be the WORST job ever where I barely get paid anything and plus I wouldn't have any money to pay for the knife set anyway.
