War Movies Available for Netflix Instant Viewing that Make the Roku Worth the Price
War movies have been a staple of Hollywood cinema for almost as long as westerns. Let's face it, westerns were the bread and butter for Hollywood studios and would have gone on being so had it not for the fact
that Germany can't seem to accept the fact that they have been, are, and will always be a second-rate country. Get over it, you dumb krauts! Okay, in all seriousness, war flicks are a great way to pass a lazy Sunday afternoon. And with all the love of invasion and killing that is inherent in old guys who run countries and can keep their loved ones off the bloody battlefields, goodness knows there has been no dearth of inspiration. With Netflix instant viewing and the Roku device that lets you stream movies directly to your TV, you can relive centuries of warfare in a single day.
Glory.
Denzel Washington saves the day again. Quite literally. Yes, the man who invented acting actually went back in time and relived his character's history...okay, I guess I have ridden that horse long enough. Maybe next time Denzel will think twice before saying something stupid like he has essentially directed himself in every movie he's been in. Glory is not really a glorious movie about black soldiers fighting during the Civil War, but it is passably good.
The Dirty Dozen.
This classic drama centers around a seemingly impossible mission and is yet another example, like the Wild Bunch, Magnificent Seven and another war movie to be found on this list, that is constructed around an ensemble cast featuring quite big name actors. The Dirty Dozen should be streamed from your Netflix queue to your Roku if only to remind you that action movie doesn't have to be a dirty term.
The Guns of Navarone.
Infamous among some as the movie that Rob Petrie slept through when he gave his alibi as to why he could not have attacked an elderly woman as he was accused on a classic episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show. Another mission impossible acted out by an ensemble cast of enormous stars, the Guns of Navarone is one of the most famous war movies ever.
