As years advance
Denial works less well.
Things unthought of
Begin to go awry
While things always evident
Continue to be
Taken for granted.

Perpetual adolescence
No longer holds up
As a categorical
Excuse
For ill-timed or
Ill-conceived
Words and behaviors.

The doctors have gotten so young
Along with the police-
And our children approach
Middle Age.
What does that say
About us?
We are young no more.

Forever young-
Great song lyric
But misleading
Expectation.
The new clothing
Doesn't flatter
But can be worn
With dignity.

Our once friend
Denial
Leaves us only
Cold and naked
In the tempest
Of years passing
Ever more quickly.

Rage though we might,
The end is certain.
Until the door closes
We can still
Walk on.

LOL! I have been noticing how young the police officers and doctors are getting. (I see the officers on the news, doctors for my social life other than the grocery store. HA!)

Facing 62 on my next isn't looking quite so ominous any longer!

I'm approaching 40 and finding it scary

I like this one. It is truly astonishing to find doctors, teachers and other professionals seem to be growing younger each year. ;-)

You seem to know what I need to hear and on which day. Wonderful words tonight, the ones I needed and wanted to hear. Thank you.

My daughter makes getting older wonderful. I no longer fear losing my beauty or my body. I feel as though every line and wrinkle is a testament to the sacrifices I've made for her. They are my beauty marks. A ravaged body is proof of all of the love and care I've given to her :)

Age/aging is a funny thing. When we are young, we want to be older. When we are older, we want to recapture that youth. But, whatever our age, we need to cherish what we have while we have it. Thank you for a thought-provoking and excellent poem.
