Tiger Woods Undergoes Successful Reconstructive Knee Surgery
Doctors' Pleased with Results'
It has been reported that Tiger Woods has had reconstructive surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee and doctors reported the surgery was a success. His media company reported that the surgery, performed by Dr. Thomas D. Rosenberg and Dr. Vernon J. Cooley, was performed at Park City, Utah, where Dr. Cooley did arthroscopic surgery on Woods' same knee in April of this year.At a press conference Dr. Rosenberg said, "We were confident going in to this surgery and I am pleased with the results. There were no surprises during the procedure, and as we have said, with the proper rehabilitation and training, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Woods will have any long-term effects as it relates to his career."
There was no projected timetable for Woods' return to the tour and no rehabilitation schedule was discussed. Woods' representative said that Tiger is already anxious to start his rehabilitation and training. Woods also wanted to thank the staff at the hospital and especially all of his fans who have sent their well wishes through Tiger's website.
In addition to the surgery, Tiger will need extra time off to let the stress fractures in his left tibia heal. The stress fractures were caused by Tiger's intensive preparations for the U.S. Open which he won on his favorite course Torrey Pines which was the course that he grew up near.
Still with torn ligaments and stress fractures, the U.S. Open was as exciting as any tournament Woods has won. He has been ranked the number one golfer in the world for a record 500th week., a position he first attained eleven years ago on June 15, 1997.
