Change the Look of Your Hoop Earrings

Hoop earrings are popular, but let's face it, they all look the same! Small hoops, huge hoops, gold hoops, silver hoops - they're all still hoops. Keep your beloved hoop earrings but try some of these earring make-overs that will keep your friends wondering where you've been shopping for jewelry. And, the changes are so easy to make that you'll want to redesign all your hoops!

One easy way to give a new look to your hoop earrings is to add a small novelty to the center of the hoop. This project is for hoop earrings that are on a wire earring. Thread a piece of clear fishing twine through the hole where the hoop meets the earring hardware. Bring the two ends of the twine together and attach them to the novelty. This will allow the trinket to dangle in the center of the hoop. You'll find any number of trinkets or novelties to use when you visit your nearest craft store. They have charms, tiny porcelain pieces, and many other suitable choices.

Add feathers to your hoops and you'll create a one-of-a-kind set of hoops like no one else's. Again, use a piece of fishing twine, folding it over the earring, at the bottom. Slide a bead onto the two ends and scoot the bead up to the earring. Pony beads, known for their large holes, are perfect. With the twine inside the bead there is still plenty of room to push in a couple of feathers. Fill the hole - twine and all - with hot glue then slide the feather quills into the bead. Add more beads and feathers, if desired, by performing the steps again and again.

If the hoop is the type that opens up to hook it in the ear, you can add beads directly to the hoop. Choose beads with large holes and simply slip the beads onto the hoop earring. You don't have to cover the entire hoop; you can just create a colorful pattern of three or four beads. There are many different patterns you can create by choose from a huge assortment of unique beads at any craft store.
