2008 New York Jets AFC East Preview

The 2008 edition of the Jets should be an exciting thing to watch. Many of the veteran players have expressed their concern over giving new comers lucrative contracts while they are left wanting more. If the locker room is divided in 2008, there is no way the Jets will have a chance to
catch the Patriots (not that they could any way). The Jets have questions at quarterback, and need to find a long term answer for 2009 and beyond as well.

KEY ADDITIONS:

1) Alan Faneca - Faneca helps to shore up the left side of the offensive line and will line up between D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold. The guard was part of the Steelers for the last 10 years, and has only missed 2 games his entire career. He will help add stability and leadership to the line, and even though Faneca is on the wrong side of 30, he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

2) Calvin Pace - Pace is in the prime of his career entering his 6th season. After 4 subpar performances in Arizona, Pace spent his contract year tallying 93 tackles and 7 sacks. He was one of the best linebackers available in free agency, and will help in the Jets' 3-4 defense.

3) Vernon Gholston - Gholston was a combine monster, and shot up draft boards as draft day approached. There was even talk that had Jake Long not signed his contract when he did that the Dolphins were ready to turn their attention to Gholston. Vernon should thrive in a 3-4 defense and shouldn't turn out to be Mike Mamula

4) Tony Richardson - The 14 year veteran is one of the best fullbacks to ever play the game. He comes from blocking for Adrian Peterson in Minnesota to New York, and hopes to spark Thomas Jones' running game behind their dominant left side of the line.

KEY LOSSES:

1) Dewayne Robertson - The former first round pick was sent to Denver this offseason. Robertson leaves as what Jets' fans consider a bust, as the former first round pick never lived up to his potential. He never had more than 4 sacks in a season, but he did have 57 tackles last year which is good for a tackle. He hopes to help shore up a horrible Denver run defense.
