New Torcwhood Noels

October Release Date Set

If you haven't seen the BBC television series, Torchwood, then you are missing out. Doctor Who, which Torchwood was spun-off from, has long been known as a show that is friendly enough for the whole family. The BBC recently created the spin-off series, Sarah Jane Adventures, which is
primarily for children, but the Torchwood series is more of an adult-orientated program complete with sex and violence. The storylines are also very moving and complex, the mark of good writing.

BBC Books, owned by Random House and BBC Worldwide, published three Torchwood novels in January of 2007. The books came out in paperback-sized hardcovers and were written by Peter Anghelides, Dan Abnett, and Andrew Lane. Three additional novels were released in March of 2008. These three were written by Trevor Baxendale, David Llewellyn, and Gary Russell. It was announced recently that three more novels would be coming in October of 2008.

The television program focused on the workings of Torchwood. Torchwood, according to Doctor Who cannon, was an organization begun by Queen Victoria to protect the British Empire from alien invasion. The television program centered around the character of Gwen Cooper, played by Eve Myles. Gwen was a normal police officer whose investigative skills bring her into contact with the Torchwood team in Cardiff, England, led by the handsome Captain Jack Harkness (played by John Barrowman). Captain Jack had travelled with The Doctor and his first new companion, Rose Tyler, before being killed by Daleks in the future and revived by Rose Tyler using the power of the time vortex at the heart of the TARDIS, which is The Doctor's ship that allows him to travel in time and space. Captain Jack was stranded in the future, as The Doctor and Rose abandoned him there.
