I'm a writer without a cause,

A dancer without a stage.

I'm a singer without a voice,

A story character on a page.

I'm that little voice inside you

That longs to open up, be free,

To lift on high that little spark

Inside of you and me.

Do you ever feel battered 'round

Like a ship without sail in a storm?

Does your body ache, does your mind quake

With lonely thoughts forlorn?

Like breath on a glass

Life fades away

With a delicacy hard to bear.

I struggle so much

And for what?

An imprint that I was here.

What does it matter? Why do I care?

All things must pass, so they say.

But I speak from my heart

For that is the part

That never will pass away.
