Used Cars with Good Gas Mileage Are Popular
Time was when the popular thing to do was to buy a new car every year or so, but with soaring gas prices consumers have decided that used cars with good gas mileage are worth more than the new car smell and keeping up the Jones. The popular trend now
is towards purchasing used cars with good gas mileage. Four dollar a gallon gas has consumers diligently searching for used cars with good gas mileage in every available venue. Used car lots are seeing many more customers, making them the envy of and even the demise of, new car dealerships. People are searching for used cars with good gas mileage online, searching the newspaper's classified ad section, even posting their own classified ads for used cars with good gas mileage.
The most popular used cars seem to be Honda Civic and Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla, and the Ford Focus and Fusion. The good gas mileage these cars get, along with their reliable reputation and the consumer demand for them, have created a scenario in which these used cars are selling for much more than their Kelly Blue Book value. Reports of bidding wars both online and on used car lots for used cars with good gas mileage appear in local newspapers.
On the other hand, the once upon a time popular gas guzzling SUV that used to dominate our Nation's roadways are selling for far below their Kelly Blue Book value, if they even sell at all. New car dealerships that have done the bulk of their sales in full size vehicles are now having to make the switch to selling smaller cars that get good gas mileage to stay in business. Some new car dealerships that are unable to make the switch to selling more economical cars are having to close up shop completely. Two local Ford dealerships that specialized in selling new full sized trucks, vans and SUV's closed the doors to their business this month, leaving large lots filled with new, gas guzzling cars. Consumers are making the choice to pay more than Kelly Blue Book value for used cars with good gas mileage as opposed to paying a reduced price for new cars with low gas mileage.
