The 80's ended with 1989 thanks to the mathematical design of the calendar. However, the final year didn't send the decade out with a whimper. Instead there were more great movies created, infused with early 80's filming approaches and yet advancing for the more modern audiences. The Top Ten Grossing Movies USA 1989
1. Batman
2. Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade
3. Lethal Weapon 2
4. Look Who's Talking
5. Honey, I Shrunk The Kids
6. Back To The Future 2
7. Ghostbusters 2
8. Driving Miss Daisy
9. Parenthood
10. Dead Poets Society
My picks for the best:
10. Heathers: This dark, quirky tale captures the spirit of rebellion 80's style with a killer. The acting is not commendable, though Christian Slater made a mark for himself just by being the character. However, the movie is loaded to the brim with one-liners and easy to pick up on quotes like "Fuck Me With A Chainsaw."
9. Look Who's Talking: Why anyone would mate with Kristie Alley has always been beyond me, but there was loads of entertainment to be had in listening to the inner thoughts of a baby ala Bruce Willis.
8. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: This was my favorite out of the Indiana Jones movies, due to the humorous banter and relationship of Indiana Jones and his father as played by Sean Connery.
7. Little Monsters: Before there was Monsters Inc., there was Little Monsters a live action Fred Savage flick that made monsters hip.
6. Glory: The last epic charge in this bloody civil war movie is probably one of the only roles I will ever say Matthew Broderick was actually cool in. It was a grand and heroic movie.
5. Tango and Cash: Guilty pleasure action movie for some, just great balls to the wall buddy cop cinema for those of us who have no shame in stating they liked it.
4. Uncle Buck: The first role I ever associate with John Candy. He really filled out the character well.
3. The Little Mermaid: A romantic cartoon with songs that get stuck in ones head ever so obnoxiously. I thought Ariel was a hottie when I was younger, after her transformation into human of course.
2. Honey, I Shrunk The Kids: A miniature adventure of large proportions.
