We lost a beautiful young Christian girl in our community. Bethany Curton graduated with my son May 30th, 2008. I did not know her personally but many of my friends knew her. It was a tragic accident just 2 days after her open house. Her boyfriend is a friend of my son. Her father is an apostolic minister and her family is very active in the Christian community. She was very talented and gifted. She sang like an angel and was in the Concord Singers. She also was involved in her church choir. She sang a solo at the Christmas Spectacular at Concord High School.
Her mother said that she was her little firecracker. She was full of life and never met a stranger. I feel like I have lost out on knowing this fantastic young girl.
Jimmy Scott was her older sister's boyfriend. He was driving the car and was killed instantly as they were on their way to church. The church members heard the wreck and were unaware that is was Bethany and Jimmy who were the victims. They stood outside praying for them. They saw Bethany being airlifted from the scene. I cannot comprehend the horror, loss, grief, and devastation that this family, church and friends are all dealing with.
There is not a lot that anyone can do but pray for them. Because I don't know them personally I didn't want to intrude. A friend of mine who is also the school librarian, and I went together to the viewing. I was honest with them and told them that we didn't know what to say but that we were so very, very sorry for their loss. I told them that my son graduated with Bethany and that he knew her.
I haven't written about this sooner because it is just all so horribly sad. My friend came up with the idea of making a comforter for the family. We bought a comforter and are having her friends sign it for the family. They can write messages, scriptures or any heartfelt memory that they need to on it for her family. We know that it won't change anything but hopefully it will make them know how much we all care about their pain and grief.
