Do Stay at Home Moms Deserve Their Own Holiday?
Cafemom.com, a popular website for moms looking to connect with other moms, asks its members a question everyday on the front page. Members answer the multiple choice question and the results are shown in percentages. The question asked yesterday was "Do stay at home moms deserve a
holiday?" and a whopping 75% of members who answered the question feel that being a stay at home mom is the "toughest job in the world" and they do deserve their own holiday.
Being a mother (or father) is the toughest job in the world. Moms go through the symptoms of pregnancy, the pain of childbirth, the sleepless nights of infancy, the "terrible twos", and the teen years. We cry when our son hurts himself on his bike or when our daughter doesn't make the cheerleading squad. We celebrate when our offspring brings home an A paper or hits a home run on the field. It doesn't matter if we do this from our kitchen sink or from our desk at work. We all feel it just the same, and it can be tough. All mothers, whether we work or stay at home, give birth or adopt, marry, stay single, or divorce, we are all mothers and we all have the toughest job in the world. We have a holiday. We have Mother's Day and we have everyday that we get to spend with our children. It may not be pre-printed on the calendar, but everyday can be a holiday if you just celebrate it.
I have worked outside the home while raising a daughter and I have stayed home with my children. Both are equally tough and neither one is harder than the other. While the two worlds have so many differences, there are also many similarities.
