For athletes involved in serious weight training, probably the most basic nutritional supplement is whey protein. Due to its low-fat content and high rate of absorption, whey protein is an excellent product for post-workout nutrition. Because whey is absorbed rapidly by the body, it can be utilized almost instantly by muscles to aid in their recovery and growth.Due to the explosion of interest in fitness and weight training, the market has been flooded with whey protein products, from companies such as All The Whey, Optimum Nutrition, BSN, and countless others. However, choosing a company to buy from is only the tip of the iceberg; each manufacturer offers a plethora of flavors to satisfy even the pickiest of palettes. Some are so delicious it almost seems like you're feeding your sweet tooth rather than your muscles.
Since many of the products are remarkably similar in quality, I decided to let my taste buds be the judge in deciding my next batch of whey. Although I had not heard of the company before, I elected to buy Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack, as it offered a Cookies & Cream flavor. I figured this variety might be the next best thing to chomping down on some Oreos after a hard day at the gym.
However, a little research revealed that Champion Nutrition has been around since 1983, and now offers a full line of fitness-related products. For a company to exist for more than two decades in America's constantly changing retail landscape, I figured they must produce quality products, and I have yet to find any evidence otherwise.
As soon as I opened the tub of Cookies & Cream, I was sure I had made the right choice. A delightful scent wafted out of the container, reminiscent more of a milkshake mix than a nutritional supplement. And despite the sweetness, this flavor of whey contains only 1.5 grams of sugar and two grams of fat per serving, compared to 24 grams of high quality protein. In addition, Champion whey also contains heaping servings of 18 different amino acids essential for developing muscle.
