Fortunately, the restaurants have been quick in reacting to this demand, so that you can find many options for "healthy eating" these days.
Here are some “eat more healthy” general guidelines, whether at home or at a restaurant. First, you need to eat a good quantity of vegetables, fruits and grains. It’s also necessary to have small portions of meat, fish and fowl.
Fresh foods are best. Eliminate salt, sugar, saturated fat and alcohol. Drink a lot of water. And, include daily exercise as part of your routine.
It’s always possible to eat healthy… in any place. With a little preparation and planning, you can enjoy the most delicious foods with few calories.
IN THE RESTAURANT…
Here are a few tips that you should remember when going to your favorite restaurant:
If you’re familiar with the menu, plan what you’re going to eat before you get there. This avoids making a last minute decision that could result in you selecting a high calorie item.
Drink a full glass of cold water before beginning to eat. This will help the digestive process. Also, you will feel full quicker, and you will eat less.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a smaller portion. Most restaurants will adjust the item to your request.
ORDER FIRST…
Place your order first. This way won’t be influenced by what the others at your table order.
It you’re not sure how a menu item is prepared, don’t be afraid to ask. And, if the item is cooked in oil, you have the option to ask that the item be prepared another way.
If everything on the menu is high in fat and calories, ask if the chef can prepare you a fresh vegetable and fruit plate. Also, many restaurants now offer a vegetarian menu. Even if vegetarian items are not listed on the menu, ask your waiter if an item can be prepared with out the meat.
