Restaurant Review: Minh's Restaurant2060 Tully RoadSan Jose, CA 95122

It was my father's 50th birthday and my family went out for dinner. However, the usual restaurant we go to whenever we celebrate was booked due to a wedding reception. So we settled with one none of us have ever eaten at before, Minh's Restaurant at Tully Road, which serves Vietnamese food.

On my five-point scale where five is the highest, one is the lowest, and three is mediocre, I will have to give Minh's Restaurant a two. Though it had an appealing facade, my experience was anything but. To put it bluntly, I had a horrible time. It seemed nice at first, but everything went downhill when we tried to order food.

For starters, their plates that have an average cost of about $9 each only serves two people. That would be nice when out on a date, probably, but bigger groups suffer, like my family. A total of 10 family members went to celebrate my father's birthday dinner. Several other tables also had a lot of people. Bigger groups suffer because there are no family dinner specialties or anything of that sort. They have to order the plates separately at the same price and same quantity.

Now you might think that if we go to a restaurant like Outback Steakhouse or Applebee's, the cost per person per plate would have been more, and so therefore, a $9 plate that feeds two people is a good deal. That would have been true, until you see the plate. A plate of food at Outback Steakhouse or Applebee's is bigger than the plate of food at Minh's Restaurant, that's supposed to serve two people. Sometimes, there is no plate, but a bowl, and a tiny one at that. The bowls at my house are bigger than theirs. The plates are meant to be serving plates, so the waiter or waitress would give each person his or her individual plate. Those plates are small salad plates. You can hardly fit anything on them. Their plates are very disappointing, but the most disappointing part of the evening was the food. Please take note that I have no problem with Vietnamese food, but I have a problem with the way this particular restaurant cooked the food.

I loveeeee this place! Their strawberry shakes are good, so is the fried noodle with the sauce. Clean, and the waiters/waitresses are nice.

I have tried many Vnmese res in San Jose and this is actually one of my favourite becoz they have a variety of authentic food that Vnmese res outside of VN don't normally offer. It's hard for anyone but the locals to judge the food, like I cannot really judge Mexican food for example. And thru experience, good quality food never comes in big portion dear!

I must agree with the opinion of the reviewer. I have been at this Tully place a few times (most through invitation) and think the food, although good and nicely presented, is overpriced and the services are not that special. I prefer the other Minh restaurant in Milpitas for the better value.

I've only been there a few times because I'm not from SJ. But whenever I am in town, I always have to go. I eat there with my boyfriend and his family. There's about 7 of us and we always have plenty of food to eat so obviously, with a big group like us, we didn't "suffer." Too bad you didn't have a good experience.

We are fortunate to have a fine restaurant like Minh's in the Evergreen Area. It is one of the few places we can go where the food is consistently excellent, the service superb, and the price reasonable. I love Minh's! (Try the Pho and Crabcakes....yummmmm).

Let it be clear. Everyone has opinions. This is mine. The article is under Opinion. Others' good experiences at Minh's won't change my negative experience. I have the authority to write my opinion. I encourage you to write your own review on Minh's.

Oh, I just saw this. This article is under "Opinion/Editorial". I'm sorry but I don't appreciate those who get heated up because a place received a bad review. Everyone won't like you. Get used to it.

I agree with her. I went there and didn't like it. Everyone has different tastes afterall. And everyone else who's attacking her, why don't you write your own review? this is her opinion, where's yours?

I have been a devoted customer at Minh's for many years now and i have to object intently to your "review". First off the dinner plates are meant to be shared and ordered with other dinner plates so you can get alittle bit of each dish. This is a traditional way to eat Vietnamese food If you or your family is on the frugal side it would be wise to stay at home and make ramen. Second of all the carmelized catfish is supposed to be served in a claypot. This just displays your ignorance about Vietnamese food. You do not have the authority or knowledge to mislead readers. The food at Minh's is authentic untainted by all the fusion craze. I have continually brought my friends, family and associates to this restaurant. Not a single person left dissatisfied. Infact everyone i have brought here has devoted their patronage to this restaurant. I hope you do alittle more research before you write such an in dept "review" about something!!!!

That's odd because I think this restaurant is great! Been going there for a long time. The dishes are awesome! I have recommended this restaurant to all the people I know and they love it. People who likes Vietnamese food should try this place and see what they think.
