Did you notice how completely shell-shocked Pres. Bush appeared following the “thumping” he received in the elections? Didn’t it seem bizarre even by this administration’s admittedly unusual standards for Pres. Bush to fire Donald Rumsfeld almost as soon as he reached the end of the sentence where he asserted that Rumsfeld would remain his Sec. of Defense for the rest of his term? Have you noticed that Karl Rove is doing his best Invisible Man imitation—a truly admirable feat for a man of his girth—following his strange odyssey around the country showing what for all the world appeared to be complete obliviousness in the face of facts as he quietly refused to divulge the statistics behind his serene conviction that the expected Democrat landslide would not actually take place? The members of the Bush team in the White House have reacted to the Democratic takeover of the House and Senate with what can only be described as complete and utter shock. It’s hard to imagine Bush coming out and dumping Rumsfeld if the GOP had held onto control of the legislative branch of the US government, yet according to Bush it wouldn’t have mattered which way the tide rolled in, Rumsfeld was as much as history even when he was informing the press that Rumsfeld was his man for the next two years. (I know, I know; it’s hard to keep up with Bush’s lies.)
