For the classic movie buff out there, I offer a list of some of film’s best:

#1 – Star Wars (Episode IV)

More than 25 years later, this film continues to enchant. The stellar cast of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Sir Alec Guinness, along with an amazing screenplay and brilliant direction by George Lucas, makes this film one of the best movies of all time.

#2 - Gone With the Wind

Few films have captured hearts like “Gone With the Wind.” Margaret Mitchell’s story of a war torn era in our nation’s history continues to enthrall people 67 years after its release. The cast, led by Vivian Leigh (Scarlett O’Hara) and Clark Gable (Rhett Butler) is one of most celebrated of all time. But it was the masterful direction of Victor Fleming that captured both the beauty and the ugliness of the Civil War.

#3 – Titanic

Once billed as Cameron’s folly, this sweeping love story sailed into the hearts of moviegoers, emerging as the most popular motion picture of its time. Only a handful of films have captured the breathtaking grandeur of “Titanic.” Under Cameron’s perfect direction, Leonardo Di Caprio’s soulful portrayal of Jack, and Kate Winslet’s ethereal Rose, this movie weaves the story of the “unsinkable” R.M.S. Titanic.

#4 – Lord of the Rings Trilogy

It is impossible to separate this series and choose just one of the films as the best. The three stand together as a fantasy masterpiece. It is Peter Jackson’s vision that assures this trilogy a place in classic film history. Visually stunning and packed with the most unusual array of creatures ever shown on film, this tale of good versus evil, friendship, and sacrifice will transport moviegoers for years to come.

# 5 - Ben Hur

Takeaways
  • Classic movie buffs differ from those of us that just love movies in general.
  • Few movies ever earn "classic" status.
  • Classic moviies come from all genres.
