Kroger Beef Recall Extended to More States

A Kroger beef recall is underway. Kroger has been identified as the source of ground beef products linked to the E. coli illnesses in Ohio and Michigan, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), The Kroger Company is extending its ground beef recall to include Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Previously, the Kroger Company beef recall affected Michigan and Ohio.

The Kroger beef recall is due to 41 known cases of E. coli illnesses, according to the Detroit Free Press. The E. coli which occurred between May 31, 2008 and June 8, 2008 according to Kroger. The Kroger Beef recall affects more than 265 tons of meat products made with ground beef. The Kroger beef recall is being blamed for 19 known hospitalizations, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Kroger Beef Recall

Kroger is asking consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers for the following products, which are part of the Kroger beef recall. The recall does not affect Kroger frozen patties or tubes of beef, according to Kroger.

Consumers can return the recalled Kroger beef for a "full refund" according to Kroger.

Any ground beef in Styrofoam trays purchased from the following stores should be thrown away. If the product in your house has the following "sell by dates," they are part of the recall.

QFC products with sell by dates of May 21-July 5

Kroger stores May 21-July 3 *(*except Kroger stores in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Knoxville, Tenn. and Kroger's Mid-Atlantic division, which includes stores in North Carolina, Northeastern Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Congrats on this being featured, Pam! So many people could still have the meat somewhere in their freezers or fridges. Glad to see this getting continued attention.
