Nail Polish
In my opinion, based on years of experience, there is no such thing as a bargain.Shoppers may think that they have picked up a bargain, but in time and if they are honest with themselves, they will have to admit that they did not.
What comes cheap often turns out to be expensive.
Let's take nail polish for example.
Quite regularly one will see priced down bottles or two for the price of one offers.
I used to fall for that approach. Now stores can give me those priced down bottles for free and I wouldn't want them.
I used to come home with my bargain nail polish and start the applying process, smug in the knowledge that I had been in the right place at the right time.
Only my pride and joy did not last long.
When my carefully applied nail polish started chipping the very next day, I did not feel quite so smug anymore.
It was not until my esthetician (Georgia) told me that make-up items get priced down because their shelf life is nearing its end that I started putting two and two together.
The discounted nail polished might be cheap, but they were old and a sure sign of old nail polish is easy chipping.
During one of my monthly appointments, Georgia suggested that I start using O.P.I.
I was all for it. After all, who wants to change their nail polish on a daily basis?
However, when she mentioned the price of such an O.P.I. nail varnish my eyes got a little bigger.
Okay, a lot bigger.
"I know it's a little more expensive as what you're used to," Georgia said, "but the product is worth it. If you apply it correctly you should be good for a week."
She had my attention.
"And what is the correct way?" I asked.
"Undercoat, two layers of color and a top coat," Georgia explained. "And for extra protection apply another top coat the following day."
So I took a deep breath and bought the O.P.I.
I have never looked back.
Now when I change my nail polish, it is because I am bored with the color, not because the polish is chipping.
In case you are wondering, no, I am not a lady of leisure.
I have a job which requires me to type a fair amount; I type some more at home; and as I don't have the luxury of domestic help (except for my son), I do my own dishes, etc.
