Long-haul truck drivers are some of the loneliest people on the planet. They're away from their homes and families for months at a time, and even on the road, they spend most of their time alone in their truck, driving. This top ten list focuses mostly on ways to help keep in touch with you favorite trucker. There are other considerations for gifts, though. For instance, the loneliness and physical labor aside, driving a truck can get rather boring. So you might think about getting something to help keep your favorite trucker entertained out there, too.

So, without further ado, the list!

1) A Laptop Computer or Notebook

Why is this number one on the list? Because a laptop can meet all the basic needs I've mentioned thus far. As I said, communication is very important. A computer can provide this in spades with an internet connection. Instant messaging, voice chat, even video if the computer has a camera, are all available when one has a computer. So what are my recommendations? Get your trucker a nice laptop running Windows XP(or if you really want to push the envelope, go ahead and get Vista) with at least 512MB of RAM and a decent processor(around 1.3GHz or higher would be good). Now, the most important feature is the Wi-fi card. Make sure it can handle wireless Internet. Even better, though would be to get one with a PCMCIA slot and get one of those new Sprint Nationwide Wireless cards(or whichever carrier you decide to go with). Just make sure it has an Internet connection and your trucker will be entertained and happy. This gift has an added bonus, though. Your trucker can now take classes online if they have the potential to get themselves a better job!

2) A Cellular Phone with a Hand-free Set

Can't afford a laptop? Is your trucker afraid of technology? Well, what about a phone? If you do decide to get a cell phone for your trucker, make sure get them a good plan, something that will have service in most places and won't run out of minutes in the middle of the month. Also, make sure to get them a hands-free set. This is as much about safety as it is convenience.

3) Satellite Radio
