While many of us suspected our representatives in Washington were more interested in beer than in truly representing us they (the politicians) have always denied it. Finally, in a moment of honesty the DNC has admitted the Democratic party is committed to consuming huge quantities of beer during the August Democratic convention in Denver. While the total quantity of beer to be consumed at the convention is not being announced an anonymous source said the figure was expected to be in the neighborhood of 15 gallons per delegate attending the convention. The DNC has announced that of its' 450 vehicle fleet to be used by DNC officials and guests during the convention twenty percent will be flex fuel vehicles which will be fueled by E-85 Ethanol. The ethanol used in these vehicles is being donated to the DNC by the Coors Brewing Company of Golden Colorado and is made from beer produced in the Golden Plant.
Coors Brewing has become the first Beer Brewing Company in America to use its' beer distillery to produce 400 proof, fuel-grade ethanol. It has developed an efficient process in which beer failing to meet Coors' quality standards is stored and later run on one of two ethanol distilling towers at the Golden Colorado plant. While most ethanol in this country is made from corn Coors have developed a process in which "moist beer" (beer judged unmarketable as beer) is distilled into 400 proof fuel-grade ethanol. This ethanol is then blended with 15% gasoline and is used to fuel flex-fuel vehicles.
This recycling achievement is beneficial to both Coors and now to the Democratic party as Coors has committed to provide any and all fuel used by flex fuel vehicles during the Democratic convention.
Rumor has it that the DNC has taken full advantage of the free fuel offer, not only to fuel its' vehicles, but also to lure many inactive DNC members and delegates as a result of mailings announcing Free Beer will be available at the convention.
