Ghosts of Hawaii

Moans from the under world, or simply an undiscovered lava tube pushing air through it? Apparitions of the past inhabitants of the island or over active imaginations? There are many reasons to believe Hawaii is one of the most haunted spots in the world. Some say it
Ghosts of Hawaii
is due to the volcanic activity and isolation of the islands that make it so mysterious. Some believe it is because of how superstitious the Hawaiians were and how violent they lived their lives. Either theory could very well be true. One thing is for sure, there are places that even the bravest of souls dare not enter.

Welcome to Hawaii, a chain of islands known as the "sandwich islands" due to its location between the east and the west. Perhaps that could be the reason for so many who believe that Hawaii is melting pot for the unknown. Some of the "hot spots" for paranormal activity have such a thick history; residential haunts are to be expected.

But ghost and apparitions are just the tip of the volcano so to speak. There are so many other things to be believed in here. Such as the existence of the Menehunes, an imaginary race of people similar to the Irish Leprechauns.

The Menehunes are known to build the temples as well as many of the stone walls you drive past as you tour around the islands. Unlike their distant counter parts, Menehunes were here to help and get things done.

One such structure known to be built by the little people of Hawaii is that of Iliiliopae Heiau. Known as the temple of the shrimp. For it was the Menehunes that built this temple on Molokai and were paid with shrimp for their services.

The stone wall in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island that reaches only half way through the bay was said to also be built by the Menehunes. There is a perfect rock wall in the shape of a square that can only be seen by air just past the airport in Kona. Little is known about this site. But one thing is for sure. The corners of this structure point to true north, south, east and west.
