The other day I was poking around the Associated Content forums and I don’t remember what the topic was but I brought up the fact that I once worked at Wal-mart and I thought, “Hey, there’s a topic I can write about!” So I thought I would share with you my experiences with Wal-Mart. That’s right I’m going places Geraldo would never dare to go.

Takeaways
  • Those little old ladies at the door are evil!
  • Put your buggy away!
  • When you shop at Wal-mart look out for nails in the parking lot
Did You Know?
The first Wal-mart was in a town called Rogers, Arkansas. I will always remember this because we had to watch a video and were quizzed later.

Unloaders do more than get carts. Unloader carry the boxes out of the trucks and to a pallet. Sometimes these boxes weight over 100lbs and you gotta carry it 20+ feet. Not to mention two trucks often show up with upto 4,000+ pieces. During Holidays it can be 6,000+ pieces. By the end of the day your feet hurt bad, your back is sore and sometimes your knees are going out form lifting too much, carrying too much and pulling heavey pallet loads like dog food backs out onto the sales floor a football field away. I don't know how it compares to utility work, but it's an insult to unloaders to say they haven't done hard work and mention cart pushing, which unloaders rarely do.

I'm an I.C.S. Associate and could almost swear it was like I wrote this article. I know exactly what you are talking about. My Asst. Manager is a complete idiot. We have 5 total unloaders, never all of them working the same night. (Mind you, we are supposed to have 7 working at a time). We get told what our first project is when we walk in the door. Then two hours into our shift, we are told we have to start unloading the trucks before the unloaders actually clock in. Then we get chewed out because we didn't get nothing done on the floor. My Assist manager needs to stop hiring for ICS and start hiring unloaders... grrr.

"When you hire KIDS,give them a badge and a title their heads get so big they look like they'll explode. They talk to ADULTS like they are in nursery school.Don't know about your store but in mine most of the managers don't do anything,as it is a college town it's more important to "chase the skirts" than to roll up your sleeves and do your job.Women are treated like they are inferior. We are short handed and you're expected to do @ peoples jobs.SHOW ME THE MONEY NOT THE BOLOGNA!For God sakes can't Walmart hire management not still in diapers? These snot nosed kids need a good old fationed lesson in respect and need to actually put in a fulls days work ,and know something about the departments they are managing BEFORE they try to tell ADULTS WITH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE HOW TO DO THEIR JOBS.If you're just out of school OF course you love Walmart...you haven't been in the workforce long enough to KNOW what respect and human decency is. " I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH WHAT TERESA SAYS. I

I'm a walmart employee... Or I should say I was as of this morning.. I worked in the TLE in the Worthingtion MN walmart store 2820.... In Worthington the hispanic rate is high... I'm hispanic myself... And the way the people are treated there is terrible.... Racial comments left and right... The other day my boss (MY BOSS) made a comment that all the mexican should go back to mexico... I've addressed this issue many times with my co-workers and to the manager... Finally today I went to the head manager of the deparment and advised him with what was going on and that I wanted to be taken out of that part of the store right away... I got a comment that he would look into it (Which means I'm going on break so quit your complaining) and that I couldn't be transfered like I wanted to... Long story short I told them to take their job and shove it... Walmart is a bad place for employees and customers...

i work for wal-mart and it sucks.they say all the great words and do the opposite.open door, yeh to let you vent then nothhing is done. Its true they treat you like your 14 yrs old no matter who you are and some so called managers speak to like your dirt but if your called into the back office theres three or more of them to tell you to have more respect for them.sorry but you earn my respect not inherit it,im at a new supercenter and there rah rah song was made for high school.ive even seen adults singing im a little tea pot song for parking in the wrong spot in front of all the employees.do you remember how far back that childs song goes.i think grammer school.that should say something

what about the endless 4am. to 1pm. smoke breaks at every walmart period!!?? That shift always puts their dirty work off on the second, third shift, and so forth !!! They control the basic daily conduct of most stores indirectly.. This seems to be true irregardless of the store manager's personal preference to smoke or not to smoke!!! think/smoke long and hard about this you will see smell it

I worked at Wal-Mart. I am as hard a worked as the come. Anyone who says hard work and team playing will get you success at Wal-Mart hasn't worked there, or at least not in the store I worked at in Lewisburg, PA. I was continually, yes continually scheduled 4am shifts to 1pm..ALONE in the produce dept. where I was expected to unload 7 ft skids by myself by 7am. I am a 40 year old 5 ft. female. Open door policy? They listen, but they do nothing. They say they pride themselves on "Respect for the individual" and "Aggressive customer service." Can you say BALONEY? I walked out just yesterday morning after weeks of trying to reason with management about scheduling and trouble making youth...soon you will see my story on this board...and this writer is right on target!

Ok you want something positive about walmart...we the smokers have some great laughs in our breakroom at the stupid stuff that goes on.FREE THERAPY!We all vent and give each other a shoulder to cry on and laugh! We even laugh at the non smoking employees because they all look mad ad heck and miserable...while we are laughing at the walmart BS.AND if we have to get groceries we are ALREADY there.

i always hear bad things about Wal Mart from various people, but never have I heard anything from a primary source. it was very interesting to read things from your point of view, as you were once an employee at Wal Mart. Thank you very much for your insight and for educating us all about the strange workings of this corporation. I always tip the cashiers, but they look at me oddly as if they don't expect it. i always return my carts to the cart area. i just don't understand how people can be THAT lazy to not do so. Thanks again. :]

Walmart in Western New York starts Full time ICS at $9.60 an hour. 30 cent pay increase if you survive the first 90 days.
