The strongest industry for employment in the next eight years is the health care sector. Jobs in the health care sector "are expected to make up seven of the 20 fastest growing occupations" between 2006 and 2016, according the the BLS.
Within the health care sector one of the jobs with the largest expected job growth is Registered Nurses. Other recession-proof jobs in the health care field include personal and home care aides, home health aides, nursing aides, orderlies and hospital attendants.

As more baby boomers start to reach retirement age, the need for health care workers will grow. My girlfriend is self-employed and has to turn down work.

Tech jobs are recession proof? Since when? Most tech jobs can be outsourced easily. This article was way too short and didn't have enough.
