My family lived in Ketchikan when my Mom was carring my sister and I. They came down to Oregon (with my older siblings) to spend Christmas with my Grandparents and other relatives. My Mom went into labor early and my sister was born right before midnight on Xmas eve and I seconds after on Christmas. My Dad had to go back a few days later but the rest of us had to wait until my sister and I could fly - we all moved back to Oregon 5 months later! LOL

This sounds fascinating-the closest I have gotten to Alaska is living on Whidbey Island-not too far from Seattle Washington.

A floatplane sounds interesting. Are you now living in Alaska? I've been so used to seeing your Hawaii articles :)
