What to Do If You Get Pulled Over by a Cop
Bad Boys Bad Boys, Whacha Gonna Do?
Nobody likes to get pulled over – if for some strange reason they do they probably need to be medicated, but we’ll save that topic for another article. Anyways, by the time you finish reading this you should be well on your way to making Mr. or Mrs. Cop a happy camper, whichThe first step to making a cop happy is to pull over right away! If you’re only two minutes from home, and figure the police officer won’t mind waiting just a tad bit longer to talk to you, you’re dead wrong! Pull over onto the shoulder immediately!
After pulling your vehicle to the side of the road, the next thing you should do is turn your hazard lights on. Even if it’s not dark, turn them on anyways! This shows the police officer that you care about not only the safety of his or her well being, but also the safety of other drivers on the road. It also just might show them that you were paying attention when you were studying for your driving exam.
The next thing you need to do is roll your window down, and then place both of your hands on the steering wheel. Cops don’t like it when they can’t see hands – make sure yours are visible at all times. Haven’t you ever watched “Cops” on TV? Well, if you haven’t, the people who always end up getting whacked with a nightstick or sprayed in the face with pepper spray are usually the idiots who didn’t listen when the officer yells, “Get your hand where I can see them!”
When the officer asks to see your license and registration, ask him or her if it’s okay to move. If your registration is in the glove box, simply say, “My paperwork is in the glove box, is it okay if I reach in and get it?” If you have to dig into your wallet or purse for anything, also ask. Remember that thing I mentioned about cops not liking people doing stuff with their hands suddenly?
