The News is Tackled by the Tiny Tot Brigade

Today's Youth Share Their Feelings About the News

8
My Tiny Tot Brigade dedicates the results of their latest poll to the AC Content Producer who came up with the idea. She goes by the call sign of Jcorn.

Jcorn wanted to know what the Brigade thought writers should write about and why; what they considered to be news; and what they thought about the news online as well as in hard copy and on television. I thought that information might be better suited to the older side of Brigade but the tiny ones took offense and wanted to be heard as well. So here goes:

Question #1: What do you think is news?

It's that stuff on TV that my parents won't let me watch because Mom says it will ruin my psyche. I don't know what my psyche is but I'm pretty sure I don't want it ruined. (Tracy, age seven)

News is the important stuff that is happening. Mostly it's about the war and how people hate the president because he started it. It makes me sad that people hate the president. I don't think it is right to hate anybody. (Portia, age ten)

I don't like the news because all it is about is bad stuff. They don't talk about the good things so I don't listen to it. (Quincy, age eight)

I don't like news people. They are bad. All they talk about is hate, hate, hate. My preacher says that I should pray for them. I am, but I don't think it is working. (Jasmine, age nine)

News is when people kill someone or when the president does something. It is usually sad or boring so I don't like it. (Brandon, age nine)

News is supposed to educate us about the world but everyone says the same thing over and over. My teacher says that they are supposed to present different points of view so that we can learn and make our own decisions. But the news doesn't do that. Maybe they should go back to school. (Trina, age eleven)

News is what is in the paper, but I don't read that. (Mari, age seven)

News is ugly so I don't read it. (Timothy, age eight)

Question #2: What do you think should be in the news?

Good stuff. (Bree, age six)

I think the news should be balanced. Okay, my dad said that, but I think that's right. (Brandon, age nine)

Not Britney Spears. She's so yesterday! (Trina, age eleven)

  • The Tiny Tots have definitive ideas about "hate" news.
  • The kids really enjoyed exploring on Associated Content.
  • The Tots have decided that I'm a celebrity because I write on AC.
