High blood pressure, as known as hypertension is a very serious condition that needs to be monitored closely. High blood pressure makes the heart work way too hard, causing the heart too tire easily, which can lead to serious complications for a person. There is hope for people who suffer from high blood pressure, though. There is medicine that your doctor can prescribe to lower your blood pressure. Most of all, your diet can help lower your blood pressure and you may not even need a prescription from your doctor. A person's diet basically controls how their body functions and by changing your diet you can easily help lower your blood pressure.

One of the main ways that you can help lower your high blood pressure is to avoid foods that are high in sodium and cholesterol. Many pre-packaged and canned foods contain an over-abundance of sodium in them and so they should be avoided. Try to stick to making your own meals instead of buying pre-packaged frozen or canned meals which contain hidden sodium in them. If you are going to eat vegetables (like you should) make sure that you stay with fresh and not canned vegetables.

Also, staying away from greasy, fried foods is another way to eat healthy and lower your high blood pressure. Fried foods just clog your arteries even more and make the heart have to work even harder. That will lead to fatal consequences if a person with high blood pressure continues to eat the fattening foods. When eating any foods, especially meats, make sure they are grilled or baked and not fried.

Just like there are foods that you need to avoid when you have high blood pressure, there are plenty of healthy foods that a person with high blood pressure should eat.

Garlic
Garlic has been proven to help lower your cholesterol levels, which in return will help lower your blood pressure. Garlic can be used in so many different meals. Add garlic to your pastas, soups, and vegetables. You can make a healthy meal of minced garlic with grilled chicken as an excellent meal that can help a person with high blood pressure.
