The Deadliest Intersections in Boston

The Intersection of Caution and Responsibility

It is safe to say that the automobile has changed the way human beings live their lives with no place that is unreachable or uninhabitable. If the land is there then we will find a way to get to it. However, it is also safe to say that the automobile has changed the way we view death,
The Deadliest Intersections in Boston
with it being the number one killer of young and old alike. Case in point:

According to Car-Accident Statistics, at Car-accident.com there were nearly 6,420,000 auto accidents in the United States in 2005. In those accidents 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed. These statistics are staggering when one considers the causes of such accidents are usually preventable and involve drunk driving and speeding.

However, not all fatal accidents are caused by direct human error but by driving conditions and roadways.

In Boston, Massachusetts the road conditions are always tough considering the crowded city streets, snowy passageways, and icy avenues. But there are some areas of Boston that are especially tough when one considers the number of accidents that have occurred in that strip of roadway.

According to Joe Shortsleeve at WBZ TV the most dangerous intersection in Boston, hailing at about fifty serious crashes just in the last two years is along the American Legion Highway in Roslindale at the intersection of Walk Hill Road. Major factor contributing to these accidents, according to the Boston Police is most always speeding. Because this strip of roadways is basically a straight way, drivers are unaware that they can pick up too much speed and not have time to maneuver the traffic lights that are posted in the area. According to Boston police Superintendent Dan Linskey, the majority of accidents occurring within this area are usually late in the evening or in the early morning hours. Solution: drivers should be aware of this area and know its potential to lend a hand in serious fatal accidents. Drivers should pay special attention to their actions as well as to be aware of other driver's actions when maneuvering the intersection.
