The Story of Gage
Today, I came across a story about a loving family dog by the name of Gage. Gage was the victim of one of the most enraging acts of animal cruelty I have ever learned of. Gage's famOn March 12, 2008, the Burke family let their Yorkies and Pit Bull out, into their own backyard, for a morning "potty break". As Mrs. Burke went about her morning routine, she was startled by a very loud noise that came from the backyard. She immediately ran to the back door to check on her dogs. The Yorkies were at the door, frantically trying to get back into the house, but her Pit Bull, Gage, was nowhere to be seen. She opened the door and called for him, but for the first time in his life, he did not obey. He could not obey. Gage had been shot in the neck, at point blank range, with a shotgun. The skin around the wound was burned by the blast, and Gage's collar had been blown off of his neck.
Mrs. Burke went out into the cold morning air, and she found Gage lying on the ground, bleeding to death. He did not die instantly. His loving owner did everything she could to stop the bleeding and save his life. Alas, her efforts were in vane, and Gage succumbed to his wound. The only positive note to this story is that Gage was not alone when he died. Mrs. Burke held him in her arms, doing her best to comfort him, as he drew his last breath. Her precious Gage was dead.
