If you're just looking to trim down, whittle your waistline or increase your level of fitness, there are a few secrets in the bodybuilding world that can help you meet your goal. They won't turn you into a package of bulging muscles, but they can aid you in boosting your fitness levels and dropping a few pounds.
Bodies are made in the kitchen. Almost every professional fitness competitor knows that exercise is only a small part of our appearance. Proper diet and nutrition, however, are key when we want to lose weight. You'll negate all that hard work in the gym when you reach for a big bowl of ice cream.
Real-Life Message: It's okay to treat yourself on occasion, but do your best to eat nutritious, wholesome foods.
It's not always easy, but the results are worth it. Some bodybuilders spend hours in the gym - and then more hours in the kitchen. In fact, serious competitors often awake in the middle of the night to eat (since their bodies require so much fuel). Most avoid indulging in things like alcoholic beverages and high-calorie restaurant meals right before a competition.
Real-Life Message: If you're tempted by treats when you're out with friends at a party or restaurant, try to keep your diet on track by focusing on your goals.
Cardio burns away the fat. Bodybuilders focus on muscle. But right before a competition, they also try and burn away any extra body fat that might be clinging to their body. One way they have of achieving this is by ramping up their cardio workouts, even if it means getting up an hour early each day.
Real-Life Message: If you want to improve your fitness levels, aerobic exercise is an important component. Try to do some cardio at least 3 or 4 times a week.
