The Amish: Resisting Assimilation
The Amish are a unique group of people who have been able to resist conforming to modern America. Much of the group's status in the United States relates directly to their careful selection of what modern technology and beliefs they adopt and make their own.
The Amish are able to continue to have an existence that is very similar to the way it was from their beginning. Much of the ability to do this is because they started their communities by being a religious group. Every aspect of the Amish life is religious and there for is protected by
the government. As long as the Amish are not doing anything that interferes with or harms another person, how they live their lives is perfectly fine. The ability to live life the way they want without interfering with someone else's way of life is what allows a culture within a culture to survive. There is no interference with the way other people live their lives and because of that, the Amish are able to live the way they choose without being harassed or disturbed by people of other cultures.
