The movies in which I selected ( trying not to have bias) for the first part played a very important role in the days and lives of motion pictures. The list (A list subjective to Hollywood), however, would not be complete until I added the final touches. The movies I selected for the 6-10 spots are equally as important.
As I was near completing this list, I came up with at least 50 films which I thought were important. If you are taking film classes or major in film theory, I believe even you can come to an agreement with the presentation, no matter how subjective the list may be. Here is the rest of the top 10 list of the most influencial films of all time. 6.Citizen Kane (1941) 7.Snowwhite and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) 8. StarWars (1977) 9.King Kong (1933) 10. Frankenstein (1931)
Citizen Kane (1941) directed by Orson Welles (1915-1985) created a new visual style in filmmaking. The usage of deep focus cinematography, mattes, akward camera angles, Russian and German cinematic expressionalism, method acting which influenced generations of actors and actresses, and episodic sequences became the stuff of legend. This film was badly boycotted in the mainstream due to its metaphysical story telling about the life of newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst. It even hurt the career of Orson Welles at RKO radio studios in Hollywood.
The critics without a doubt thought that Citizen Kane was a monumental landmark in the movie going experience. Citizen Kane is often called the greatest film ever made in both the Sight and Sound and AFI polls. Orson Welles is often greeted as one of the finest directors in Hollywood all time.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) directed by numerous directors in Hollywood fom the Walt Disney studios became the first animated feature in the world presented in full Techicolor. It premiered with praise to a large audience and it became one of the top grossing animated films in history. It was based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.
