‘Tis the season to be jolly, well not quite, but for those snow lovers the cooler temperatures can only mean one thing, it is time to ski! Last winter I took a trip to the Snowshoe Resort in the little town of Slatyfork, WV. This resort has been referred to as the place to be on the east coast if you love to ski, snowboard, or ride snow mobiles. Whether you are a beginner, a well seasoned skier, or even a site seer, you will love what Snowshoe Resort has to offer. I had never been big time into the skiing/snowboarding scene when I was growing up, but my trip to Snowshoe got me addicted. This place was absolutely amazing. It was only my second time snowboarding and I finally got the hang of it while relentlessly going up and down the Ballhooter slope. Falling, crashing, but never staying down because it was just way too much fun. Snowshoe is a gem located on the east coast which draws comparisons to the larger, more well-known ski resorts out on the west coast of the United States.

Snowshoe is different then most ski resorts. The ‘base’ of the mountain is actually at the top of the mountain, yes I said the top. At the base, or the top, whichever you prefer, is where the well-known village is located. Within the village your every necessity will be within a three minute walk from you slope side condo. With endless amenities such as fine dining, shopping, coffee shops, apparel shops, and equipment shops all located within the village, you will not find yourself scarce of anything. Snowshoe contains 57 trails from extremely easy, to very difficult. With an annual snowfall amount of about 180 inches, and 100% snowmaking, it is a guarantee that there will be an endless amount of snow of the slopes for your enjoyment. There are also fourteen lifts located at various points of the mountain so you will not have to wait in long lines which will get you back on the slopes in no time. The slopes also contain a run of over one and a half miles, which can be done as either a joyride, or for some serious speed!
