Sweating is something everyone does; it's the natural way a body cools down. In certain people the sweat system overworks to cause profuse sweating well beyond what a body needs for cooling purposes. This can prove irritating and embarrassing for the person involved. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is noted in about 1% of the population.

Excessive sweating can be a red flag signaling other ailments or conditions. One of these conditions, called hyperthyroidism, can cause serious problems. Other conditions related to super-sweating are menopause, obesity, endocrine diseases and psychiatric disorders.

In some people hyperhidrosis can be limited to certain parts of the body only, such as palms of hands, armpits or forehead. This type of hyperhidrosis usually begins in childhood and continues on through the adult life. The exact cause is unknown but anxiety can cause it to be even more severe than normal.

There are no specific drugs to treat profuse sweating and that can leave the sufferer to avoid social situations. Often, profuse sweating is seen by others as a sign of nervousness or insecure - even lying or having something more sinister to hide. In reality any number of things can set off the uncontrollable sweating sessions.

Exercise, of course, is one reason many people sweat but when you suffer from hyperhidrosis simply walking through an air-conditioned store can cause the onset of super-sweating. And the more it heats up outside the worse the condition can get for some.

Some alternative methods of treating excessive sweating, like acupuncture or homoeopathy, have had disappointing results. There is a type of surgery that can help those who simply can't find relief in any other method. The surgery requires the excision of the axillary sweat glands.

Talk to your doctor about treatments that may help the sweating problem. If you've tried several different avenues and none have worked speak to your physician about the axillary surgery. Read more about the surgery online to get a better understanding of what all it will involve. There's no need to be embarrassed anymore.

Takeaways
  • Everyone sweats but some people sweat so profusely that it interrupts their normal lives.
  • Some people cannot control their perspiring even with antiperspirants and other treatments.
  • Sweating is seen by others as a sign of a person with something to hide.
Did You Know?
Someone who sweats profusely can give the impression of being unclean or nervous.

Oh my gosh, I have the exact same problem and I am 12 too. I know how you feel. But dont waste your money on secret clinical strength. I'm also going to try degree for every omg moment. It's worth a try. It's supposed to work pretty wee for when you have those moments pretty much alll day. I f that doesnt work ask your doctor they'll probably give you drysol it supposed to work really good and you apply it at night. If anyone else thinks any of this stuff works pleasee respond cause i have not tried them yet. THANKS! I hope i kinda helped. See ya.

okay i am only 12 years old and i sweat like a pig. People say only fat people sweat but i don't think i am fat. sweating is really embarrasing. i wear my jacket to school everyday so you can't see my sweat patches. i tried so many different kinds of anti perspirants but none work. i don't tell my parents or my close friends cause it is really embarrasing and i don't want them to make fun of me. I have an older sister and she is so perfect in every way. sometimes i wish i could be her for one day. i hate sweating and it is holding me back from alot of things i want to do but you can't do alot of things if you can't raise your hands. so does any one has any advice?

I used to sweat a fair amount all the time. I tried many different antiperspirants and deodorants but nothing seemed to be working. I started wearing undershirts to try and absorb it which had a minimal effect. I recently went and bought "CertainDr" from the drugstore. I figured it was worth a try. Although slightly more expensive, it is extremely effective. I haven't sweat at all in the past week. You apply it at night and it keeps working the next day. The box said it reduces 60% of sweat after 60 hours which is pretty good. I suggest giving it a try and seeing how it works for you. You may be surprised.

I have the exact same problem. I'm young and pretty fit. I've tried everything! I'm hopefully going to the doctor to see if they know anything that could help me with this embarassing problem. If anyone knows, care to share the secret?

yess we all know how embarrasing it gets wen we're at skool or we're out at a party n all we think about is the sweat patches underneath our arms. a small tip is to not think about it i find that wen i forget about it sumtimes it doesnt seem to kum up as much as im not stressing or worrying about it leading to more wetness, but anyway the antipersperant shit aint working i might try the certain dry that sum peeps r tlking about. if this keeps going on i dno wat im gna do koz itb stops me from alot of stuff n me being who i am in society doesnt exactly help. gotta set a good example for these kids. i jus wanna be stress fre.. ur not alone guys jus dnt be afraid to ask for help. i know im gunna try to

I have this problem as well. Have for the past 4 years. It just came on suddenly ---unexplained, profuse sweating in the armpits, even on a cool day, or in an air-conditioned building. I find mysefl staring at other people's armpits, wishing I could just put on a top and have it stay dry in that area, like other, normal people. The doctors I have been to are quacks. When I explain to them, they look at me like I am crazy. They seem to have no idea what is causing the sweating...I dont think they have ever even heard of hyperhydrosis. I have to chose what clothing I buy very carefully, keep my arms lowered as much as possible, and put pieces of hand-towel inside my clothes under my arms to kind of combat the wet-mark from showing up on my clothing. Its so depressing. I feel like I have been afflicted with some horrible condition. But I am not giving up, there MUST be a doctor who can help. I think the others were just lazy and lack knowledge.

I agree with EnglishBoy's comment above. Cut out as much sugar, caffeine, and alcohol out of your diet and make sure you stay physically active. Get the sweat out by working out (don't overdue it though). I love chocolate and other sweets but I've been cutting back on them tremendously in my diet. So much of the food in the American diet has an over abundance of sugar in it and I think its driving our society bonkers. Everything we eat is about "taste" when in reality there's more too our bodies than our tongues. Cut the sugar out!!!
