2008 Fantasy Football Team by Team Analysis: Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens finished the 2007 season a disappointing 5-11, despite giving the England Patriots">New England Patriots a real scare. Had it not been for a horrible timeout call and horrible calls by the referees the
Patriots wouldn't have had the 19-0 talk to begin with. If the Ravens have any chance to succeed, they need to improve their offense. Aside from Willis McGahee, there isn't much to brag about. Here's how the 2007 Ravens compared to the rest of the league on offense and defense.

Offense (Ranking)

Points/Game 17.2 (24th)

Total Yards/Game 302.0 (22nd)

Rush Yards/Game 112.3 (16th)

Pass Yards/Game 189.7 (23rd)

Defense (Ranking)

Points/Game 24.0 (23rd)

Total Yards/Game 301.6 (6th)

Rush Yards/Game 79.3 (2nd)

Pass Yards/Game 222.3 (20th)

The Ravens are in the middle of rebuilding, and their offense doesn't look like it has much to offer. There are a couple of players worth considering on draft day, but the majority of starters won't warrant a looksie come draft day. Let's take a look at the options the Baltimore Ravens present for fantasy football teams this year:

Quarterback

The Ravens will have a three way competition at quarterback this year, and the winner is yet to be determined. Kyle Boller has never lived up to his first round status. Troy Smith is still a raw product, and looks like the third string quarterback heading into camp. Joe Flacco, this year's first round pick, still isn't signed. Bottom line is this; no matter who is at the helm in Baltimore, don't waste you brain cells even thinking about selecting one of them.

Running Back

Willis McGahee and Ray Rice will be the heart and soul of this team. The Raven's offense will be on their backs, and they must deliver. McGahee is the playmaker of the backfield, last year tallying 1,207 yards, 43 catches and 8 total touchdowns. He is a great number 2 back for your team, and could be a number one back if you spend your first round pick on a Tom Brady. Ray Rice will get his touches, but this is McGahee's team.
