Bar Room Baby...An Attempt at Songwriting

This was an attempt at song writing that I tried wayyyy back hmmm....maybe around 1999, 2000? Anyway, I was trying to follow through with it, and even came up with a melody for it, however, my 2 oldest girls needed braces. Need I say more?

It was a recap of the wonderful childhood my parents gave me.

Bar Room Baby

I sit at my barstool, all of 7,8, or 9
and look out across the bar room floor,
Gee, I get bored doin' this time after time
And think how nice it'd be just to walk out
the damn door.

But I gotta wait for mom and dad to finish all their drinkin'.
Gotta wait til they feel they had enough.
Then finally when they've said good-bye to all their drunken friends,
We drive home, mom, dad, and me, and all their drunken stuff.

I'm a bar room baby, that's how I've been brought up,
Thinkin' drinkin's a way to live your life.
I'm a bar room baby, it's all I've ever known,
And it sure is a bad start...
But it's all that I've been shown.

Now, there's that crazy drunk sittin' next to me
Trying to kiss my neck and touch me tenderly.
At this age, I'm just a bit confused,
Is this all o.k.?
Well, it must be, mom and dad just looked away

We start out at Helen & Otto's,
Then it's on to Marty's Tap.
Now tell me can you think of more fun for a child than that?
Potato chips and slim jims sure help appease me,
Til, my head I lay down on the table, I'm so sleepy.
