Why Celebrities, Sports Stars, Politicians and Other Public Figures Cheat
The recent news of A-Rod's wife, Cynthia Rodriguez filing for divorce because of his affair of the heart with Madonna, and the sensational divorce trial of Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook, raises one burning question in the collective public mind:
Why do celebrities cheat?
Why, indeed, do so many celebrities, sports stars, politicians, and other rich and famous spouses or public figures cheat on their
mates?
As an infidelity expert, frequently called on by the media to comment on celebrity infidelity, high profile infidelity court cases, and infidelity issues in the news, it's a question I'm often asked to comment on.
Below, excerpted from an in-depth article on my website www.InfidelityAdvice.com about celebrity infidelity, are a few of the reasons why celebrities cheat. Though their lifestyles may differ, public figures and the rich and famous often cheat for many of the same reasons ordinary people do.
Peer pressure
Entertainers, or sport figures like A-Rod and Michael Jordan are constantly surrounded by adoring fans. They may be encourages by their teammates or their associates to "sample" the wares.
Ego-Embellishment
Non-celebrity spouses, like Peter Cook who are married to famous wives like Christie Brinkley often cheat for what I call "ego embellishment reasons." They want to be the center of attention -to feel as important as, or more special than their famous mates.
A sense of entitlement
Many celebrities, corporate executives politicians like Eliot Spitzer, and other prominent individuals feel that because of who they are, they can cheat on their mates with impunity.
Opportunistic sex
When an opportunity presents itself for them to cheat without getting caught, they take advantage of it like Jude Law did when he cheated on Sienna Miller with his children's nanny.
To satisfy their curiosity or craving for a different type of sex.
Former New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey confessed to being gay, only when his same-sex infidelity with an aide was about to be exposed.
The knowledge that they can get away with it
