In our family we have discovered a new favorite food – Zatarain’s Rice. Zatarain’s is a unique, tasty, product which is easy to cook and a favorite of everyone in our household. The Zatarain’s company makes New Orleans style rice and other mixes which can be cooked and enjoyed by everyone. They use high quality ingredients, and make their products so you can easily cook them. I use the rice mixes primarily, and while it seems like I took a long time to prepare the meal, in reality I just threw some things in a pot and let them cook.
Zatarian’s makes the following rice mixes:
Black Beans and Rice
Black-Eyed Peas and Rice
Broccoli Rice Au Gratin
Chicken Flavored Rice
Dirty Brown Rice
Dirty Rice Mix
Dirty Rice with Cheese
Fire Roasted Vegetables & Rice Mix
Garlic & Herb Rice Mix
Gravy and Rice Mix
Long Grain & Wild Rice
Red Beans & Rice Mix
Rice Pilaf
Rice Pudding Mix
Smothered Chicken Rice Mix
Spanish Rice
White Beans & Rice Mix
Yellow Rice
Our family’s favorite is the Zatarain’s “Spanish Rice.” To cook it you mix a 16 ounce can of diced tomatoes with the Zatarain’s package of rice and seasoning. You let this boil and then simmer for approximately 45 minutes. The rice comes out with a nice Spanish flavor and is hearty and very yummy.
Another yummy mix is the “Long Grain and Wild Rice.” This mix has a nice balance between the amount of plain, long grain rice and wild rice grains. It is not overloaded with the wild rice as some mixes can be. It has always cooked up nice and plump and tender for us
Another family favorite is the “Black Beans and Rice” mix. The beans and the rice are healthy together, forming a complete protein, and lend each other great flavors. This mix is especially good with a bit of grated cheese and olives sliced on top.
