The Chicago Cubs entered the 2008 baseball season having won their last World Championship in 1908. 100 years is the longest draught of any professional team in North America. However the Cubs have had their share of memorable moments since entering the National League in 1876. Here is a look at those moments and let's hope that come October the Cubs will be able to add one more to the list.April 25, 1876. Chicago, then known as the White Stockings (they were called the White Stockings until 1889), wins its first National League game by defeating the Louisville Grays by a score of 4-0.
September 15, 1876. The White Stockings defeat the Boston Red Caps by a score of 9-3 to clinch their first National League Pennant.
October 4, 1906. The Chicago Cubs defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4-0 to win their 116th game of the season to set the all-time record for most wins in the regular season. This mark lasted until 2001 when the Seattle Mariners won 116 games. However the Cubs won 116 games in only 154 games as compared to the 162 it took the Seattle Mariners.
October 12, 1907. The Chicago Cubs defeat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 2-0 to win their first World Series. They defeat the Tigers 4 games to 1. Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown is the winning pitcher. Harry Steinfeldt drives in the first run of the game with a single in the first inning.
October 14, 1908. The Cubs once again defeat the Detroit Tigers 2-0 to win their second consecutive World Series Title. Once again they win the series 4 games to 1. The winning pitcher is Orval Overall. Frank Chance had an RBI single in the first inning and Johnny Evers added an insurance run in the 5th with a double. The Chicago Cubs become the first team to win back to back World Series Titles.
October 2, 1910. The Cubs defeat the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 to clinch the National League Pennant. It is the Cubs 4th National League Pennant in 5 years.
August 25, 1918. The Cubs win their first pennant since 1910 when they defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-3 in the first game of a doubleheader.
