The Obvious Existence of God

Why Any Rational Person Has to Be a Theist

Simple logic should convince just about anyone that God exists. Atheist authors like Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins have invested a lot of time and developed a lot of impressive-sounding arguments to counter this simple logic, but they have done nothing to change the facts themselves. The
fact is....God exists. It may not be possible to prove beyond all doubt the existence of the God of the Bible or the Quran, but no one can rationally deny that there is a God. Here's why:

1. The Universe Began to Exist

According to the second law of thermodynamics, the universe is running down. It is literally running out of gas. This means that it can’t be eternal. An eternal universe would already have used its energy up, if that is one of the features of its existence.

Moreover, we have learned from the fields of mathematics and philosophy that it is logically nonsensical to assume an infinite number of events or moments. An eternal universe, and with it an eternal number of moments, is simply impossible. Thus, we can accept the overwhelming view of modern science that the universe began to exist (most scientists estimating that origin to be roughly 14-15 billion years ago).

2. Something that Began to Exist Must Have a "Cause"

Given the fact that the universe began to exist, it must have had a “cause” that originated it. Since the universe is the boundary within which we understand space, time, matter, and energy, the cause of the universe would have to be greater than - literally outside of - those limitations. Such an ultimate cause would be what the ancients called a “Necessary Being” – that is, a being which is necessary for all other beings ("Contingent Beings") to exist.

Related information
  • The universe cannot be eternal, since it is literally running out of energy.
  • Since the universe began to exist, it must have had a cause.
  • Only God qualifies as a cause sufficient to account for the universe.

flawed logic in a number of places: according to thermodynamics, the universe is not losing energy or gaining it. the amount of energy never changes, it just changes form. and using god as the initiator of the universe is not solving the problem of origins, but making a bigger one. If god can create the universe and oversee it, he must be waaaay more complicated than the universe. Where did god come from? it's cheating to say it created itself. It's simpler to have the universe spawn out of nothing than to have a god, which does not have to obey any laws of physics, spawn out of nothing and then create the universe. God is much less probable than the universe. And everyone should take a look into the anthropic principle.

I would need to see arguments that do not reference the Bible as a source. However, while I agree that something created the universe, I think your arugment diverges from logic once you: 1.) Assume it cares 2.) Assume there was a purpose we can truly understand 3.) That because there is a "god", it is a christian god

I believe in God.. but I need to repent so I may live in Heaven with all who I loved here on this disrepectful planet, this abnormal world, this living Hell. I'm glad that I believe in him, so I may seek my rightful place in Heaven amoung my family and friends and family of Christ. (All coming from a 17-yr-old Christian, who, I can tell, is smarter and wiser than you crackheads who say Jesus is humbug)

Your argument is clearly attempting to proove the existence of a false god, I say this because *I* am the only true god.

Ron, Christians have been predicting and preparing for the end of the world for centuries now... still hasn't happened. However, if people continue to neglect our earth, we really will have problems. Not because God is punishing us, but because people need to have more respect for the fragility of the societies and ecosystems in which we live.

This proof that God exists is clearly manifested via biblical prophecy. There are well over a thousand prophetic events predicted, which were written hundreds, to even thousands of years prior to them happening. For todays doubter...sit back and watch the show. Here's what you can expect to unfold in your lifetime: a cashless society where you cannot buy or sell without an imbedded identifying mark(implanted chips, happening now), a peace deal pact between Israel and Palestine where they worship side by side (it's on the table), the rebuilding of the Temple Mount (already built, just waiting to be assembled), a system where the whole world will watch as the two messengers of God will be killed in the streets (already in place, satellite), an increase in earthquakes, floods, and wars, an increase of knowledge, right being considered wrong, a falling away of believers to an unsound doctrine that fits their needs, love growing cold, kids rising against and killing their parents, the assem

So, Clinton, what you're saying is that unless you can see it, touch it, feel it, smell it, or taste it - then it ain't real. That is what you're saying, correct? That unless you directly experience something with your senses, it does not exist. Defendants will LOVE you on a jury.

No, Tubbsy...I do not agree.

Anna, Dom, Clinton, et al....what constitutes PROOF? If what you demand is direct, sensory evidence (taste, touch, smell, see, etc) in order to believe in God, then you are correct. I cannot prove God. But I would argue that direct, sensory proof is not always required to establish truth. Do you not agree?
